The Badagry Kingdom is mourning the death of its traditional ruler, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi, the Akran of Badagry, who passed away at the age of 89 after a short illness.
His death brings to a close nearly five decades on the throne, a reign spanning 48 years that ranks him among the longest-serving monarchs in the history of Lagos State.
Sources at the palace confirmed that medical professionals certified his death, after which customary burial rites were initiated in line with tradition.

Across Badagry, residents have expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late monarch as more than a ruler.
Many said he embodied fatherly leadership, offering guidance, stability, and reassurance during challenging periods in the town’s history.
At the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Government had not released an official response to the monarch’s passing.
