Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has played down speculation about his future, insisting he remains fully committed to the club despite claiming he had endured his “worst 48 hours” since taking charge.

The Italian raised eyebrows after Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton on Saturday, when he spoke of a lack of support for himself and his players.

Although he made clear the criticism was not aimed at supporters, the comments sparked intense debate over whom they were directed at.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday ahead of Chelsea’s League Cup quarter-final against third-tier Cardiff, Maresca declined to clarify his remarks.

He appeared frustrated by repeated questions and refused to expand on what he had meant, insisting his focus was solely on the upcoming fixture.

Maresca stressed that his attention was on helping Chelsea reach another semi-final, highlighting that the club could secure a third last-four appearance within 18 months of his arrival.

He reiterated his appreciation for the fanbase, saying supporters “deserve the best” and again underlined that his comments were not directed at them.

When asked directly whether he remained committed to his role, Maresca responded unequivocally that he was.

He hinted that while the scrutiny surrounding Chelsea is intense, it comes with the territory of managing a club with such high expectations.

The former Leicester City boss joined Chelsea in July 2024 and enjoyed immediate success, guiding the club to victory in both the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup in his debut season.

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League and remain in contention for automatic qualification to the Champions League knockout stages.

Maresca acknowledged that expectations have risen this season, particularly following last year’s silverware and strong league finish, but said he continues to enjoy the challenge despite the pressure.
