Brazil temporarily suspended the world’s first single-dose dengue vaccine on Monday following two suspicious deaths.
More than half a million people have received the shot this year since health authorities approved the publicly developed vaccine in November.
Out of 501,044 vaccinated individuals, 3,703 people showed dengue-like symptoms, and 42 experienced more severe reactions.
Health officials recorded three severe cases, including the deaths of a 58-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, while a 38-year-old woman survived after an intensive care stay.
Health Minister Alexandre Padilha stated that authorities lack sufficient data to establish a direct link between the vaccine and the severe cases, but called the situation a warning signal.

He noted that clinical trials involving 16,000 volunteers showed an efficacy rate of 91.6 per cent and revealed none of these unexpected side effects.
