Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has officially accepted the presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 general elections and announced former Kano State Governor and Senator Musa Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential candidate.

Obi made the announcement at the party’s special convention in Abuja on Saturday, where NDC National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson presented him with the party’s flag.

“It is with deep humility that I accept the role of presidential candidate for our party. I express my profound gratitude to the leaders of our party, His Excellency Seriake Dickson, the National Chairman, the National Secretary and the National Working Committee members of our relentless supporters, and the Nigerian populace who have steadfastly kept the spirit of hope alive,” Obi said.

The event drew party chieftains, including former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege and other stakeholders from across the country.

In his acceptance speech, Obi formally invited Kwankwaso to join the ticket.

“It is in this vein that I graciously accept the affirmation as a candidate of this great party, and in same spirit inviting Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso to join me as the vice presidential candidate, so we can rescue this country,” Obi said.

The former governor praised his running mate’s commitment to education and security.

“Kwankwaso believes that a child of nobody should be trained to be somebody. He believes in education. He believes in security and now we will work together to ensure that happens,” Obi said.
